using Healing with Heart.
How Does
Healing with Heart Transform Care?
Many healthcare systems are incorporating
Healing with Heart into their care delivery training and organizational
change programs. They have found that by systematically using these messages
and themes in their daily work lives, healthcare professionals can:
-
Deepen their connections and
communications with their colleagues
-
Appreciate the role that everyone plays in
health care
-
Remember why they pursued their profession
in the first place, tap into the passion that drives them to excellence
and renew their love for their work.
The result?
-
Better teamwork
-
Improved and deeper conversations and
connections leading to greater trust among coworkers
-
Inspired leadership among leaders who have
the title and those who don’t
-
A heightened sense of respect for
differences/diversity
-
Use of reflection as an exercise of self
and professional improvement
-
Greater attention to creating a healing
presence in a hospital
…all leading to person-centered care and
improved quality of patient care.
I
love the book Healing with Heart, but how do I use it?
This has become a steady refrain that we hear. So, we’ve been asking our
customers and users to give us feedback that we can share with all of you.
Two things we’ve learned: it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money
and it’s easy!

I
just conducted the first East Bay Care Retreat on Wednesday and used
your book for a beautiful reading ("The Impact of Working with Soul" p.
144). Everyone so loved Healing with Heart. As planned each
participant received a personal copy. I t so compliments our work with
Jean's [Watson] Theory."

As
a faculty member of
Colorado
Center for Nursing Excellence, I am using the
book to assist with participant self reflection and to create a
sustainable mindfulness of our purpose and passion. I read passages
during the beginning of each session to set the tone, create an open,
caring environment and to remind each participant of the importance of
the work they do every day when caring for others. I end each session by
reading the passage that discusses the importance of self care and
committing to protected time each day to re-ignite our own care giving
spirit.

Terri,
I am really enjoying the Healing with Heart tools. I forward the weekly
e-affirmations to my staff as just one way of reminding us to be
grounded as we go about our work. I also use your book to begin our
monthly "check in" time--again a reminder of the art of nursing and how
a self-reflective practice only deepens our connections, our
inspiration, and our creativity as we strive towards excellence of
practice.

A Day in the Life of a Soulful
Leader
How one hospital is
teaching its leaders to lead in a "soulful" way using Healing with Heart.
Our
Leadership Development Institute was overwhelmingly successful. Our
Chaplain, Rev. Becky David facilitated "A day in the life of a soulful
leader." She outlined 6 Vital Behaviors: finding inspiration, using ritual
to inspire, find your passion/know your bliss, plan your recovery, manage
your energy, find and create work-life balance. There was much table
discussion and everyone's ideas were shared. It was truly an inspirational
day.
Each participant received your book, "Healing
with Heart". Becky encouraged us to reflect at least 15 minutes each day,
preferably at work. Several of us in my department have our books at our
desks. My new ritual will be to turn on my computer, then read a passage
from your book before logging in. I have already placed a note card in the
book where I will record a key phrase or thought from each passage.
Again, thank you for compiling your book of
inspirational stories. I will savor it daily.
